Monday Monthly: Ethical Maxims for a Marginally Inhabitable Planet

Note: This month’s session will be a week earlier than usual.

The stepping off point for this Monday Monthly will be the profound and emotionally challenging 2021 paper by the medical ethicists David Schenck and Larry Churchill, Ethical Maxims for a Marginally Inhabitable Planet.

The six maxims make profoundly good sense: 1: Work Hard to Grasp the Immensity; 2: Cultivate Radical Hope; 3: Have a Line in the Sand; 4: Appreciate the Astonishing and Unique Opportunity; 5: Train Your Body and Your Mind; 6: Act for the Future Generations of All Species. And, like all provocations that challenge the tone and style of everything we do, they deserve and require reflection and discussion.

We suggest you allocate at least an hour to read and reflect on the paper ahead of the session and look forward to welcoming you, providing a container for all that’s provoked.

Booking fee:

£10
